Based on David Mamet's play "Sexual Perversity in Chicago" this movie, starring Rob Lowe and a young Demi Moore, is a particular favorite of mine. It's an involving and at times searing portrayal of the relationship between two people in 1980s Chicago and the interactions and problems that relationship causes them in their existing friendships.

First we have Rob Lowe as Danny, a salesman with dreams of one day owning his own restaurant and his best friend Bernie (played for almost comic relief by James Belushi). One night he meets in a bar the beautiful Debbie (played by Moore who has never looked more attractive) and her best friend and roommate Joan (played by Elizabeth Perkins).

After a rather shaky beginning Danny and Debbie are soon off on a whirlwind romance that eventually leads to Debbie moving into Danny's apartment and the two inadvertently ignoring their friends (much to the chagrin of both Bernie and Joan).

Of course trouble is soon brewing as Danny has to forsake his rather player lifestyle and Debbie wants more commitment than he is willing, or able to offer. The movie follows the ups and downs in the relationship and leaves the viewer really rooting for the two of them to work out their differences. It's hard to exactly figure out what it is that this movie does right. t seems to have a perfect blend of comedy, drama, passion and sorrow that makes for some compelling viewing. This movie would almost be required viewing for young adults as a precautionary tale if it were not for the gratuitous nudity (has Demi Moore ever had more topless scenes in any one picture?) and scenes of a drunk Danny spiraling down into despair.

This is a true gem of a movie and probably one of the best date movies ever. The DVD is a little thin on special features but at under $10 this is a must-own.

I'm surprised how many folks gave this film a bad review. I think this is only because the film was marketed to the wrong crowd so the wrong folks are watching it. This is not a Bermuda Triangle, Freddy Kruger, or Friday The 13 type of horror, Sci-Fi or slasher flick. Triangle is more along the lines Mulholland Drive, Angle Heart, Memento, The Shining or even Repulsion.

I will say for the first 15 minutes or so the movie seems kind of lame and for a time things may not seem to make much sense as characters make bizarre decisions - so you have to stick with it.

But once Triangle kicks in (I wish I could tell you how and why it kicks in - but your better off not knowing anything about this film) Triangle is a really good, nightmare of a film. Carefully and lovingly staged and edited by the filmmakers with very good performances photography and soundtrack.

The entire cast is excelent. The cast are playing American archetypes (not stereo types) - If you are an American who lives near the ocean you will instantly be familiar with these folks of various classes and relationships. All the actors are flawless in that they do not draw attention to their acting but instead simply become the characters - which is the ideal. Of course Melissa is a standout but her character Jessie is the focus - they were all great.

From reading the reviews I think I may be one of the few that understood the ending and the plot and if I'm right this movie is even better then most people think. A real "hell" of nightmare.

Highly recommend this film for fans of puzzles, non linear plots, off kilter cryptic stories and eye opening, disturbing endings.

A film that works as both a mild psychological thriller and a brief portrait of a marriage in tatters, Chloe is grounded solely by its otherwise stellar cast. Rising star Amanda Seyfried plays the titular character, an alluring icy blond escort who is hired by Catherine (Julianne Moore), a doctor who suspects that her professor husband David (Liam Neeson) is cheating her. Chloe's job is simple; lure the husband into a compromising position and see if he takes the bait. But what begins as a simple plan quickly turns into something much more complex and potentially devastating for all parties involved. The mounting tension among the film's two core relationships promises much during the film's running time, but it drifts into its third act in a manner that ultimately sabotages the story and keeps it from becoming something truly memorable, ending with more of a whisper versus a bang. While it cleverly uses the classic psycho-sexual thriller Fatal Attraction as a worthy framework, Chloe took the premise and gave it a refreshing twist and that alone is worth giving it a rental viewing. Aside from that, view the film for what should be regarded as Amanda Seyfried's breakout performance. If anything should be remembered after walking away, it's that the young doe-eyed actress definitely has the talent to pull of a serious role.

When MGM first released Moonstruck on DVD they inexplicably did so with an inferior pan and scan transfer. They've rectified this situation with a new deluxe edition that restores its proper aspect ratio and with a collection of new extras. Moonstruck was the My Big Fat Geek Wedding of its day only infinitely better and about an Italian family as opposed to a Greek one. Watching Norman Jewison's film again, you realize just how much Nia Vardalos' film is heavily indebted to it. If Moonstruck is La Boheme than Greek Wedding is Tony and Tina's Wedding.

It's time to use your old disc as a coaster as this edition is definitely worth the double dip. MGM has taken TBS' dinner and a movie to the next level by including three recipe cards with fine Italian meals so that you can do your own cooking and eat it while watching the movie.

Carried over from the previous edition is the audio commentary by Cher, director Norman Jewison and screenwriter John Patrick Shanley. Both Jewison and Shanley talk about their fascination with death while Cher talks about the importance of costume and how it helps her get into character. This is a solid commentary with smart observations and excellent anecdotes from everyone.

"Moonstruck: At the Heart of an Italian Family" takes us through the genesis of the film mixing interviews done at the time of filming (Cage and Cher) and new ones (Aiello and Dukakis). There is great, behind-the-scenes rehearsal footage as Jewison and Shanley take us through the film telling several entertaining anecdotes.

"Pastas to Pastries: The Art of Fine Italian Food" is a tour of some of the best restaurants in Little Italy, in particular on Mulberry Street. You have six different places to choose from and their chefs demonstrate how to make a few choice foods guaranteed to make you hungry. If you love to cook and eat than this extra is for you.

Finally there is the "Music of Moonstruck" that examines the role that music plays in the movie. The first screening went badly because the music was all wrong.

This the miniseries that started the show Lexx. There are four full-length movies in the series. I gave a four-star rating for the show itself which is great despite the dated effects and somewhat slow pace of some of these episodes. Unfortunately the Amazon streaming version is the censored version that aired on Syfy and not the unedited version on some of the DVDs.
